The England and Wales COVID-19 Contact Tracing app has been released. The government are now urging people to download the app, with over a million people downloading it on the first day.

The app automatically detects people you pass in shops or spend time. Your smartphone detects other smartphones around and keeps an anonymous record of them, it will also give you symptoms checks. If one person you met in the shop yesterday gets coronavirus, it will alert you to self-isolate and give you suggestions and can help you book a test.

However, there are some disadvantages. People with an iPhone which does not run on IOS 13.5 (iPhones 5 and below) cannot download the app. This may affect poorer people in the UK, who may not have the latest phone. Also, many people were worried about the privacy but the app is safe to use.

When people go into shops, restaurants and cinemas they will have to scan a QR code which can later alert you if anyone in the shop had COVID-19.

The app will require many mobile phone users to download the app, So tell your parents to get it now! Download it here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1520427663
